چکیده

Adopting the non-Darcy flow presented by Hansbo and considering nonlinear compression permeability characteristics of soils, one-dimensional consolidation problem soft clays is investigated means a continuous drainage boundary. The numerical solutions average degrees defined settlement excess pore water pressure are derived using finite difference method, correctness these verified comparing them with existing analytical solutions. Based on proposed solutions, parametric study conducted to influence interface parameter, parameter soil nonlinearity behavior clays. results show that based boundary can be degenerated into Terzaghi if taken as reasonable value. both seepage very complex.

a numerical approach for one dimensional thermal consolidation of clays

in saturated soils, heating induces thermal expansion of both grains and the pore fluid. lower thermal expansion coefficient of aggregates results in the increase of pore pressure and reduction of the effective stress besides subsequent volume changes due to the dissipation of pore pressure and heat transfer. dissipation of thermally induced pore pressure with time is a coupled thermo-hydro-mec...

Improvement of soft clays using vacuum-assisted consolidation method

In this study, the analytical modeling of one-dimensional consolidation by vertical drains with vacuum preloading considering both vertical and horizontal drainage is presented. In this method, the total degree of consolidation based on excess pore water pressure dissipation is related to the time factor (Th), drain configuration and anisotropic soil permeability. The analytical predictions are...

Upscaling non-Darcy flow

We consider upscaling of non-Darcy flow in heterogeneous porous media. Our approach extends the pressure-based numerical homogenization procedure for linear Darcy flow, due to Durlofsky, to the nonlinear case. The effective coefficients are not constants but rather mildly varying functions of prevailing gradients of pressure. The upscaled model approximates the fine grid model accurately and, i...

Artificial boundary conditions for one-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equations

This paper addresses the construction of nonlinear integro-differential artificial boundary conditions for one-dimensional nonlinear cubic Schrödinger equations. Several ways of designing such conditions are provided and a theoretical classification of their accuracy is given. Semi-discrete time schemes based on the method developed by Durán and Sanz-Serna [IMA J. Numer. Anal. 20 (2) (2000), pp...

Dissipative Boundary Conditions for One-Dimensional Nonlinear Hyperbolic Systems

We give a new sufficient condition on the boundary conditions for the exponential stability of one-dimensional nonlinear hyperbolic systems on a bounded interval. Our proof relies on the construction of an explicit strict Lyapunov function. We compare our sufficient condition with other known sufficient conditions for nonlinear and linear one-dimensional hyperbolic systems.
